Hello friend,
I just read an article that said that women who have “grandma hobbies” can live up to 8 years longer and that’s sort of wonderful because that includes knitting, and gardening, and doing art and bird-watching and basically all the cozy activities that I love. I’m not sure that I love that they’re called “grandma hobbies” because that seems a bit dismissive, but I guess by the time you get to be a grandma you’re a bit more into your “fuck everyone” stage of life and are ready to do whatever the hell you want without worrying about what anyone else thinks and that’s incredibly bad-ass. Grandmas are punk as fuck.
So now whenever I start to feel guilty about spending time doing art when I should be cleaning the dishes I just remind myself that I can enjoy doing comfy activities now because I can do the dishes later during those last 8 bonus years I’ve built up for myself by doing the comfy activities. Not entirely sure that’s how that works, but I will be using it often and so should you.
This week’s doodle was a drawing of a plant I have somehow not managed to kill yet.
And I was going to do something fun with the leaves but then I kind of liked it simple so instead I drew a new one that I could use to draw patterns on:
But then I liked it too. And so I kept them both simple and drew a new one to doodle on:
And…well..yeah. So I ended up with three unfinished drawings of the same plant but technically I was combining the two cozy hobbies of gardening and drawing and so now I think I get 16 years of extra time to finish them. (Is this how calculus works?)
So maybe next week I’ll have added some patterns and words to these, but until then, feel free to print off one of my plants to create your own version while you steal time from death, you absolute bad-ass.
Wrapping you up with love and light,
~ me
That is, indeed, how calculus works. It is similar to where if you break a cookie in half, but still eat both halves, there are substantially less calories involved.
This substack is the best investment I have ever made. It makes me so happy.
