Sometimes life is really hard, and then suddenly a squirrel shows up in the backyard and hangs from the hummingbird feeder like she’s a furry Miley Cyrus while she sucks down all of the sugar water and lets it rain down on her like she’s in Flashdance and then eats your freshly planted lemon balm because I guess that’s how you make a squirrel mocktail? And you consider going outside to tell her off because THERE’S FRESH WATER AND NUTS RIGHT THERE and then you realize that she is having the time of her furry little life outside your office and maybe this is a sign that you need to remove yourself from negativity and make friends with a squirrel, because clearly you are both afraid of people and make questionable drinking choices.
(It looks empty because she literally emptied half of it on herself before putting her whole-ass mouth on it to suck to last dregs out. She needs a name but I can’t find anything that rhymes with Miley Cyrus.)
Oh my God, I got so distracted I forgot this was supposed to be about art and not squirrels. What the fuck, me?
This week’s doodle is a reminder to go outside and see the sun and experience the squirrels and remember that the world can be quiet and calm in protected places, and that you owe it to yourself to find those small moments of peace.
“SHINE ON.”
Love and squirrels,
me
PS. Do videos work here? No clue. Let’s try.
My small knitting group call ourselves the Tipsy Squirrels, some of us may be distant cousins to your furry, bird feeder robbing friend. Maybe her name is Smiley Nutcase?
A friend of mine made friends with squirrels when she was growing up. They would come and knock on her bedroom window to beg for nuts. She's still a squirrel friend as an adult. They have an outdoor cat right now, so the squirrels stay away, but when they didn't, she would put out food for the squirrels on the front step and they learned to come and tap on the screen door if the treats ran out. She could recognize all the squirrels that lived in her yard and knew their family relationships. So it can be done!
