The good is there, even if you can't always see it.
warning: contains unintended ectoplasmic monster
Hello, friend.
“But how can I trust it?” she asked. “How do you believe in something you can’t even see?” Our coffee had grown cold, but its scent lingered around us.
“It’s real,” I said. “It’s real even when you can’t see it.”
This week’s doodle is a reminder that even when it’s hard to see, there is good around us. Maybe it’s in the form of love from friends or family, or the unexpected care of strangers. Maybe it’s a song that gives you strength or permission to cry or laugh or dance. Maybe for you it shows up as God or Allah or mother nature. Maybe it looks like the memory of someone who still gives you strength even after they’re gone, or a sign from the universe that reminds you that you are a part of it.
Maybe it looks like hope.
Just because it isn’t always visible doesn’t mean it’s not real. And this a reminder (for me and for you) to look for it…those golden but quiet things that we often miss when we’re busy with life or overwhelmed by the (always too visible) darkness and worry.
This drawing was supposed to show the invisible aroma of coffee leaving heart-shaped spaces in the air but it looks more like a sci-fi alien made of intestines searching for victim with its wandering tentacles. I apologize, but in my defense, I’ve never made coffee and no one ever taught me how to draw smells. But perhaps you can use this questionable doodle as an exercise to see the invisible good intentions I had when drawing it, rather than the ectoplasmic monstrosity that I seem to have manifested.
And if you can’t see that, I hope that you can at least see how happy I am that you are here.
Your friend,
Jenny
This made me cry. I am struggling a lot right now with overwhelm while navigating grief and looking for a new job, and you're right, it's so easy for me to forget all the good around me!
Tentacles Coffee & More should be the name of your coffee bar in Nowhere.
