My great grandma used to yell to my dad from the front porch, “don’t hit a pig, it’ll flip your car over.” (we’re Arkansas southern, so not sure if this was a “southern” saying, or just grandma having too much sherry, but it’s still the advice we give each other before we leave the house).
One of my favorite quotes, and one that comes to mind in dark times: "Hope is a discipline." (Mariame Kaba). I read it a few years ago, quoted in an interview with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. It is something that helps to remind me to work towards the future I want to see. Another favorite quote: "I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day." (E. B. White)
Thanks for sharing the source of that quote. I heard it recently but was sure where it came from. It changed the course of a healing process for me. And wow do I feel that second quote! It's as if the secret to life is to do both at the same time!
Ok, this will make no sense probably. But that looks like a door, or portal? And then I found this on Google. “Then I yelled through his door, "It's an anniversary gift for you, asshole. Two whole weeks early. FIFTEEN YEARS IS BIG METAL CHICKENS.” I am aware the chicken is implied in the picture. And also aware Victor’s door probably does not in the remotest version of reality look like this drawing. But still, I laughed and laughed remembering that chapter. So I’m going with this.
The lovely and inspiring quote, “Bloom where you are planted” is credited to Saint Francies de Sales who lived in the late 1500s and early 1600s. This quote brings to mind a picture of a beautiful bloom, but what it implies is a situation that is difficult that requires grit, surrender, and gratitude.
Poet E.V. Rogina: "Like wildflowers, you must allow yourself to grow in all the places people thought you never would."
“Don’t save your bouquets”
It’s something my great grandmother always said and means if you have something nice to say to someone you should share it.
Love this.
Instead of “It’s okay”, our family motto is “It might be fine.” Makes us laugh every time
I didn't come this far to only come this far.

THAT is stupendous. I'm going to start saying "Don't hit a pig" instead of "Drive carefully," if only for all the double-takes I'll get. Thanks!
😄
I vote “unless they’re paying your bills pay them bitches no mind”

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” – Pablo Picasso or...
"I must have flowers. Always and always." -Claude Monet
The Monet quote made me think of Miley Cyrus's song "Flowers" and the lyric
"I can buy myself flowers ..."

Or just perhaps just “knock knock motherfucker” 😁
Thank you so much, Cathi!! One of my favorite humorous essays EVER!! 😂❤️
It does look like a portal.

This, by the way, isn't necessarily the best quote for this picture. It is, however, the one that's been stuck in my head recently.
"Every year, back comes Spring, with nasty little birds yapping their fool heads off and the ground all mucked up with plants." -- Dorothy Parker
