Hello, friend!
In quick, non-art news, I had my PET and CAT scans and got very good news and it’s all here on my blog if you want to read it and see a picture of Hunter S. Thomcat in a wig. (If you don’t want to read it or hate cats wearing hats, just know that the oncologists didn’t find any additional cancer and they feel really optimistic about everything. HELL YES!)
And in art-related news, this week’s doodle is brought to you by circles.
I fucking love circles. I know it doesn’t make for a strong art piece but there is something so comforting about drawing tons of tiny circles and filling them in with different designs. I highly recommend it. I needed a reminder that often the purpose of art is less about the final product and more about the process of finding comfort, catharsis, and relief for the artist.
Find the things that brings you joy and just keep doing them. It is a balm in the darkness.
“Never give up.”
I remain
your strange friend.

My inquiring mind neeeeeeds to know. Do you use a stencil to draw your circles, or are you just that bloody good at it? All those circles are perfection. I also love drawing circles, but mine are always very wonky. In my mind, when I start out I envision mine looking likes yours, but they never do. Might need to get a circle stencil. I remember my dad had one growing up and I loved sitting at his drawing board and just tracing a bunch of circles all over a piece of paper.
A good reminder about the process being more important than the final product. I'm currently cutting out more hand-drawn heart shapes, using up paper scraps, because I find it soothing and easy with all the craziness that's been going on in my life. I'll run them through my sewing machine later to make garlands but for now I just need to cut out the shapes. My son graduated high school on Friday and then I picked him up from the emergency room in the wee hours of the morning after the senior all-night party. All the lead up to a great thing and then a scary thing right after and then a big gathering the next/same day. (He's doing okay.) So I'm just trying to decompress with an easy creative activity. I wouldn't even call it a project.
