If you find the larger print it's from, you find out that there is a nun with a penis replacing the cross on her rosary trying to bribe it away from the cat with a fish, all of which is being watched by a jester leaning in a window. So... the context doesn't really help answer any questions here, basically.

It was probably drawn by a nun. Mediaeval nuns seem to have had a thing about dismembered penii. There's a manuscript with them in a tree, like fruit, and another where they are flying about with wings...

Was it revenge? Wishful thinking?

Don't believe me? Ask Jeanne de Montbaston (https://readingmedievalbooks.wordpress.com/)

Whenever I look at those illuminated scripts where there's a cat, I imagine it's there because the scribe loves cats and was thinking "this needs Mr. Meowmeow" and then I imagine the little noises he makes while drawing it. "awwwww there he is, now lets add your little pawpaws. he's a fierce baby, isn't he. mrrrrwwwwarw." and it makes them so much better.

Johann Jurgen of Germany invented the Saxony wheel in 1555, based on drawings by Leonardo da Vinci. That same year, Claus the Cat debuted the portable penis — a bold fashion statement that killed on the runway, but never really took off with the common folk.

What you need is the Ugly Medieval Cats calendar, 2025.

I bought the 2024 one, and am about to buy this one too! I can't add a link, but you can see it for yourself on Amazon.co.uk....

Thought: If a picture/drawing of a cat carrying a dismembered penis can stand the test of time, there's hope for us all.

I think those color combinations are lovely. I like tertiary pastels.

Like all cats, your lovely Hunter doesn’t present a linear outline, because, like all cats, he has fur, which makes his outline softer. Cats with sleek, shiny fur are somewhat different, but not if you look closely. This isn’t a criticism, because I’m not an artist like you (I sing and knit, sometimes at the same time 😉). I’m just telling you what I see, as someone who has lived with cats since I was a child. Your technique is an expression of what you see. Carry on!

I like your cat picture, it looked bundled up in flowers or yarn. And your color picture made me think of a stylized brain!

All glorious beautiful human perfection ♥️ I loved every single slightly unnerving cat. Somehow endearing. I’m endeared to each one.

Lol what a fun post! People over the centuries have certainly been creative and maybe a little crazy. Mankind hasn't changed at all really. ;)
